Terms of Use
1. Who we are and acceptance
These terms govern your use of the Shifty iOS app and the playshifty.com website (together, "Shifty" or the "service") and form an agreement between you and Yusuf Örnek ("we", "us"). By using Shifty you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Shifty.
2. The service
Shifty is a social deduction ("impostor") word game for 3–20 people in the same place, each using their own device. Players join a room with a 4-letter room code, an invite link or a QR code. The service is currently free and requires no account. Room data is deleted automatically about 3 hours after the last activity.
3. Who may use Shifty
Shifty is a party game for a general audience. Children under 13 should only use Shifty under the supervision of a parent or guardian. If you are under 18, we recommend reading these terms together with a parent. Parents and guardians are responsible for their children's use of Shifty.
4. Rules of conduct
When using Shifty you agree not to:
- use a display name or content that is insulting, profane, hateful, discriminatory, sexual, threatening or harassing;
- impersonate any person or organisation, or share other people's personal information (such as full names, phone numbers or addresses);
- try to enter rooms you weren't invited to, disrupt games or bother other players;
- attack or overload our servers, misuse the service with automated tools (bots, scripts) or try to circumvent security measures;
- use Shifty for any unlawful purpose.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.
5. Moderation, reporting and blocking
- There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users.
- Display names, typed clues and custom word lists are automatically filtered for offensive words. No filter is perfect.
- The host of a room can remove (kick) a player; a removed player can't rejoin that room.
- You can tap any player (in the lobby, or next to their clue) to Report them in the app, or Block them so their clues are hidden on your screen.
- You can also report an inappropriate name or behaviour to support@playshifty.com with the room code, display name and approximate time. We review every report within 24 hours.
- We may remove content that violates these terms, block names, and restrict access for people who break the rules, without prior notice.
6. Intellectual property
The Shifty name, logo, design, software and word lists belong to or are licensed to Yusuf Örnek. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use Shifty for personal, non-commercial purposes in line with these terms. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, redistribute or sell Shifty, except where applicable law allows. We use the display name you type only to show it to the players in your room and to run the game.
7. Fees and future paid content
Shifty is currently free. If optional paid content (such as word packs) is offered in the future, purchases in the iOS app are made through Apple's In-App Purchase system under the App Store's terms. Prices are shown clearly before you buy. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
8. Changes to the service and availability
We may change, add or remove features to improve Shifty. The service depends on internet connectivity and third-party infrastructure (Cloudflare), and we can't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may discontinue the service with reasonable notice.
9. Disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Shifty is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted operation.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Shifty. As a free service, our total liability is limited to the minimum amount permitted by law. These limitations don't apply to intent or gross negligence, or where they would restrict mandatory consumer rights.
11. Additional terms for the Apple App Store
- These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Shifty or its content.
- Your licence to use the iOS app is subject to the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service and to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA).
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Shifty. Please contact us for support.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any product liability, legal compliance, consumer protection or intellectual property claims relating to the app.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
12. Termination
You can stop using Shifty at any time by deleting the app. We may restrict or end your access if you violate these terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. The courts and enforcement offices of Istanbul, Türkiye have jurisdiction. Consumers in Türkiye may also apply to consumer arbitration committees and consumer courts under Law No. 6502. If you are a consumer living outside Türkiye, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time and will announce material changes in the app or on this page. If you keep using Shifty after a change, you accept the updated terms.
